separating audio and re-authoring

I recently downloaded an .avi movie for my grandson.... which has two audio tracks, one in English and one in Italian.
When I converted to DVD, only the non-English audio will play. What's the easiest way to separate the two audio tracks
and re-join only the English language track to the video ?

run avidemux and save the avi file with the english audio track. then run it thru the software you used to create the dvd
