    Free shipping, too.
I tried to get one of these a few days ago, but it sold out within hours.
    Just grabbed myself a pair.

Yeah, I bought myself a 1.5TB last month, and it was used up almost immediately.
    That didn't last long.

4TB should keep me settled for at least a few months.

Files are just so big these days.
I'm also a duplicate/triplicate backup whore, because redoing work sucks.

The Fantom 2tb drives are something almost always on sale at Tiger direct, Amazon or Newegg for around that price or maybe just a few dollars more.

I bought one over thanksgiving for $ 99. Also bought a thermaltake dual docking station for $44 and a Seagate 2tb drive for $69 just to give them a try.

I did see the 1.5 at one of the above for $79 just a few days ago.

It's usually about $20-30 more from what I've been tracking for the past 3-4 months.
That's why I liked seeing the $99 price.

My external drives are starting to look like a small mountain as I've accumulated well more than a dozen now.

But in recent years, as a separate mountain, I've only been buying the Neil Poulton design externals from LaCie regardless of any other discounts going on. They may cost a little more but they are top quality and have never failed me, and look stunning in their shiny all-black luster.

If I have to make a mountain bigger, it may as well look nice.

  8. I just bought two Samsung F3 1TB drives for Data/App use and a 64GB SSD for boot drive. This looks like a good deal for a 2TB external, and it has eSATA too! USB 2.0 is too slow. Can you imagine backing up 2TB over USB 2.0? It would take all night to do a backup, where eSATA would probably be done in 30 minutes or so.

It dawned on me that, all these years, I've never considered speed in a drive as a big priority. Others like this too?

Reliability of course was always front seat, but I've never looked beyond USB 2.0 for better options. Sadly, I admit, "cosmetics" made more precedence in my book...

Speed only matters to me when the drive is a "live" drive -- meaning I'm using it to actively edit photos (RAW, not JPEG) or video AND that it's directly connected to the system. Anything over the gigabit switch is slower than USB2 anyway.

Backup drives can be USB2 or Firewire 400, and I don't much care, because those tasks are done overnight anyway.

  11. I am still deciding whether to purchase. Here is a thread where one person mentions that his enclosure contains a Samsung F4 2TB. There was an issue with F4 drives causing data loss. Samsung did release an update, so I'm hoping you could flash the drive inside this thing?

  13. Here is FW update for the 2GB F4 (HD204UI) that was released 12/9/2010. Some people are saying that after you flash, FW revision will be the same. Samsung didn't change FW version number.
