  1. Video has sound ONLY when "audio => audio channels => right" is checked, it does not have sound at any other settings. Why??? How do I correct this problem? I'm using VLC player.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Are you saying there is no audio when you select Stereo or Reverse Stereo?

    Sounds like phase cancellation. If it happens with all audio files, check your speaker/headphone connection (whatever you are listening through). If the problem is isolated to only one file, well, something is wrong with that file.

    No. Just one particular video file.

  7. Phase cancellation would require that the audio was being mixed to mono (or Dolby Surround Sound decoding with no back speakers). But there would be sound with only the right channel, as well as with only the left channel.

    The one thing I can see that would explain all the symptoms is Dolby Surround Sound decoding with no rear speakers and a dead right speaker). When Stereo or Reverse Stereo are selected the surround sound decoder will route the out of phase sound to the rear speakers (which don't exist). With Left channel only sound would only come out of the left speaker. With right channel only sound would come out the right speaker -- but if the speaker is blown or disconnected there would be no sound. Of course, it should be obvious the rigth speaker is blown when playing other audio sources.

    All my speakers are fine. I downloaded this file from the web. Now, what I like to know is how to re-encode this video to fix the problem?

  11. I would use VirtualDub.

    1) File -> Open Video File
    2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy (no reencoding the video)
    3) Audio -> Full Processing Mode
    4) Audio -> Use Advanced Filtering
    5) Audio -> Filters... filter audio as necessary
    6) Audio -> Compression -> Lame MP3
    7) File -> Save as AVI
