  1. Ok, I think its just a setting somewhere, but for some reason I can't figure it out. I am using Nero 10 and have never had a problem burning disc's before, but they have always been -r..... the +R where on sale Can anyone help me figure out what I am doing wrong? So far I have altered the settings on a burn for dvd-iso to No Multisession, close when finished burning. Even still the disc is not readable on the computer. I am only making backup discs of some videos for replay on the computer. Anyone know what gives?

It has nothing to do with +R or -R(unless your burner is 10 years old) when it comes to burning DVD Video. HP discs are junk and Nero is a waste of time and hard drive space. Buy better discs(Verbatim) and use ImgBurn.

    Use better blanks: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
    Use ImgBurn, not Nero.

That's really all there is to it.

  5. I see what the census is! Another question then, I have been using Nero forever, have no love for it per se, the drive is rather old a sony dru-810a, and I have never had a problem burning maxell or memorex dvd-r discs. Are those not considered junk discs as well? So is there no fix other than change software and discs?

  6. Check the listings on Lord Smurf's site.

Those HP discs are made by CMC Magnetics, second-class media at best. And yeah, use ImgBurn.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

Yeah, we've heard that one before. I've lost count of how many times somebody has basically said the following.
"I've been burning __________ (complete crap brand) DVDs for years now using Nero and I've never had a problem until now, so I know it can't be my discs or Nero..."

Your discs are bad quality. Memorex is terrible. Maxell is simply bad. There are technical reasons as to why you should not use Nero for DVD burning. Here's a link if you want to read it:
    http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/pgcedit_guide/burning_with_pgcedit/burning_with...pgcedit_v2.htm
Scroll down to the bottom and read "TECHNICAL INFORMATION REGARDING 32K GAPS". Basically Nero destroys the entire reason that BUP files exist in the first place, rendering them completely useless should in the future you ever need them to make your disc playable because of a bad sector. This is why you should NEVER burn with Nero. Not to mention that ImgBurn is much more reliable, but the technical reason why Nero sucks for DVD burning is in that link. I have Nero and I use it sometimes for burning data discs (it is fine for that), audio CDs, and the occasional VCD and that's it.

It's not necessary to buy only Singapore made Verbatim discs, as johns0 suggests. Verbatim's Taiwan made DataLifePlus series is excellent. As long as you don't buy their new "Life Series" which is lower quality, cheaper media sold in stores like BestBuy to compete with crap brands like Memorex, you will be fine. Taiyo Yuden, which you will have to buy online, is also top notch media. No other media sold in North America is completely trustworthy. Sony has at random times used both first class and absolutely awful manufacturers for their media in recent years, but everyone else who sells media in North America just uses the cheapest and lowest quality manufacturers for DVD media.

Apart from all the correct comments from the others, you should check Neroīs configuration.
It puts DVD-ROM booktype change for DVD +R as default. Disable this and try again.
I recently also bought some Memorex cheapos - the same Riteks as the Verbatims here in Latin America.

Thanks for the technical info, but I think you misunderstood what I am doing. I am creating backup discs of video, true enough, but not vob files, etc. that your linked article was concerned with. Good to know for true video dvd's. These are misc. mpg files so, basically a data file. I will keep searching for settings as the next poster mentioned and of course as all have pointed to, a better source of discs. And I am sorry you have lost count of the the first statement. You have to understand that 99% of users are not concerned with the smallest minutiae of burning, we just need a copy that works

  11. ImgBurn to the rescue, even with these 2nd tier discs, ImgBurn was able to produce a working copy. Thanks again all. The problem seemed to lie in the speed. Nero was going full tilt 16x burn while ImgBurn was averaging around 9x.
