  1. Hi,

    I'm new, I'm a teacher.

I'm having some trouble with my scan converter pc to tv.
I have used my gigaware scan converter without trouble with my dell laptop. I put the converter away for the summer and now I can't remember what I need to do to fix what I remember as a simple problem.

When I have everything hooked up, I can see my laptop display for a second when I turn the power on to the converter or when I reset the converter. I thought the problem was the refresh rate of the laptop, but it's set at 60 hertz. I know that the converter is functioning, I can see the display.

Is there anyone who can give me a hand?

    Welcome to the forums.

I'm not using the same hardware you are, and I'm assuming you do presentations from your laptop to a TV or projector, but on many laptops you have to press the "fn" key and "f2" or "f4", many are different though, there might be a little picture on the function key that would give you a clue. Hope this is the answer? Good luck.

  3. Thanks, but that's not the fix. My laptop uses the FN+F8 combo, but when I tried that all I got it to do was turn off the laptop monitor.

  4. You may need to turn the resolution down, as well as setting the refresh rate to 60 Hz. Many scan converters max out at 1024x760, or 1280x1024.

  5. Resolution is down to 800 X 600. Thanks, but not the solution.

Think the point your looking for is over at this link from radioshack ... Read the comments below as it mentions the need to go into the desktop properties and check you have two displays ... one is lcd (laptop) and the other would be monitor) ... just follow through and see if that solves the problem.

Normally one would turn the tv on followed by the scan convertor then the laptop ... otherwise the laptop may have a difficult time picking up the external properly.
