I have problem with final job in AE, encoding to AVI or MOV with looong rendering time.I have (P4 with processor 2GHz and 2Gb RAM).For example movie clip about 1 min long takes about 4 hours to render to AVI.Why in AE CS4 encoding to MPEG 2 is missing. What format I should use for render in AE and then encode to MPEG2 for DVD disc.
Regards.

consider upgrading your system, AE can take advantage of multiple cores and lots of memory . Also if you have compatible opengl graphics card it can reduce render times for many effects as well
rendering time will vary according to system specs, and how intense your project is (if you have lots of effects it can take loooong time)
you might have a memory bottleneck (open task manager) , and if you are near 100% and using page file, it will slow down render times immensely (because you are using HDD for memory) , then the solution is to get more RAM (I would upgrade your whole system instead)
if you have multiple computers you can setup renderfarm (but only image files work - e.g. png)
you should export lossless avi, then encode to mpeg2 (lossless avi can be uncompressed, or you can use lossless compression like lagarith). Filesize will be huge and it will be in RGB color space , so it will need to be converted to YV12 before encoding to MPEG2 for DVD. If you want easy to use program that does this for you, try avs2dvd
