I’m new to this board and VERY new to cutting/burning DvDs, so please bear with my ignorance.

I’m wanting to get a 2-minute clip from a video on DVD that is nearly an hour long. I’m then wanting to post this 2-minute clip on YouTube. Unfortunately, the hour-long video, which consists of VBO files, has only one chapter – which is the entire video itself, so I couldn’t use my normal video cutter – Hand Brake.

I downloaded DVD-lab PRO 2 because I read where chapters can be inserted into the video. However, it seems like DVD-lab PRO 2 will only burn a DVD when all I simply want to do is merely clip a small video from a large one – no DVD – and get just a file I can then upload on YouTube.

Anyone familiar with DVD-lab PRO 2 know how I can save what would be burned onto a DVD, instead be saved as a video file on my PC? Is there a FREE program out there that would be better than what I’m currently using for what I’m trying to accomplish?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think the simplest way is the free dvd shrink in reauthor mode. You open the disc and go into reauthor mode. Then drag the title over to the main tab and go into the chapter cut window. From there just grab the segment you want. You can rip it to the harddrive then.

If this is a commercial dvd you'll need to rip it first probably. Dvd shrink is VERY old and has not been updated in forever. Use the free version of dvd fab decrypter and copy as a video_ts. Then in dvd shrink use open files and find the folder where you saved the disc.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Vob2mpeg to extract the video from the dvd (rip first as above if commercial)
mpegstreamclip or vdubmod to extract just want you want
upload the extracted clip to youtube

So, I was able to rip VBO files into small clips using DVD Shrink 3.2. Now, I'm wanting to combined these small video clips into a larger clip. It doesn't appear DVD Shrink will combine or merge clips (but I might be mistaken)... Any suggestions to accomplish this?

dvdshrink can combine them. put it in reauthor mode. in the right pane navigate with the dvd browser to a clip and then drag it to the left pane. continue for each clip. click the backup button at the top when done.

aedipuss, thanks for your response. I did exactly what you said but no video files are visible when searching for them with the DVD Browser. In fact, just folders (NO FILES) can be seen. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

each one of the clips you cut and rip with dvdshrink must be put in it's own folder. then it can find the files it needs.

  10. Hope your problem is already solved with the help from all the experts above.
DVDShrink is also one of the best DVD Chopper. DVDShrink normally creates the folder in root by default with same label as DVD and file same as VTS_xx.VOB
As chopped VOB is high resolution, make sure you upload very High Res clip to YouTube as well to be viewed by maximum numbers of the viewers. HD profile 1980x1020 v-bitrate =5500kbps plus - audio AAC 224 kbps stereo 2 ch. Use Free HDconverter.

aedipuss, thanks again for your help. I did exactly what you said...I dropped the three clips I'm trying to combine (2 for one disc and 1 from another) in the left pane, ran "Backup!" and the program encoded the three clips together (apparently, so far, so good). However, when I go to the output folder, the clips aren't merge into one larger video file but instead the three individual smaller clips...

they should all play as one dvd video though. if you want to put them into one mpg-2 file try using vob2mpg on each clip, then use mpg2cut2 to join them. vob2mpg could do the same thing if you put all the vob clips in one folder and numbered the vobs consecutively.
