I have an mkv with no subtitles on it that plays fine on my WDTV Live. I wanted to add a subtitle file so I added it to mkvmerge and merged the file....the file plays fine in VLC player but no longer plays on my WDTV Live unit...any ideas?

sweet, broski...it worked. Downloaded 3.4.0. and it plays fine now with the subs...thanks! Seems the header compression thing is a problem for the WDTV Live player.
