  1. Not sure if this is in the right forum or not. Hope so.

I want to take some screen caps from HD movies for my website. I've done this in the past with normal photos, but now its time to move on to HD.

My question is this. What do I need to do this? I need to buy a laptop that is capable of this. But I cannot afford much.

The only laptop that I can (maybe) afford that is HD is this one:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-AS5336-2613/15125399

It states that its HD, but it doesn't have a BluRay player. So my question is this. Since it has an HDMI port, can I connect my Sony BluRay player via HDMI to it and somehow (for free) screen cap from it in HD??

Or, do I HAVE to buy a laptop with a BluRay in it to get the results that I want?

EDIT: I just realized I'm sorta stupid Haha. Both are Output HDMI slots, not one input and one output. But, is there any other inexpensive way to make this work? Or do I have to buy a laptop with BR player in it?

If you just want screen caps, a single picture, and not video you can get away with a lower end laptop with a adequate graphics.

First, that port on only HDMI out, not HDMI in. You won't get what you want that way. You'll need a BDROM drive and BR software player that allows screen captures. Most do.

Is there a reason you're going for a laptop? You could simply add a BDROM to your existing PC for about US$50. Something like this:

It would help if you gave us your full current PC specs to see what other suggestions we could give.
    Have a good one,

  3. I'd love to add on to my existing. But I don't have the HD screen, or HD video card to go with it. Plus I've always wanted a laptop to replace my PC.

I mainly just want it for HD screen caps. I would at some point take videos, but those wouldn't have to be in HD.

I don't know anything about laptops, but I found this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-AS5551-4200/14575795
Out of my budget range, but maybe I could figure something out.
