Just installed a new LG WH10LS30K bluray writer into my Win7 Pro 64bit system. No problem with installation. Plays Blu-ray discs and writes DVDs OK. I've made 3 attempts to burn a BD-R data disc using Ritek BD-R 4x discs from Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817132069). Reviews indicated no problem with these discs in the same burner.

The data to be burned consisted of roughly 22GB of DV files (just the raw files--no authoring). I tried twice using Imgburn (2.5.3.0) selecting UDF 2.50 as the file system. In both instances, it indicated 8x, but then burned at only 2x taking a little over 40 min. The burn was considered "successful", although failed during the initial verify procedure. When attempting to "read" these discs in Explorer, the blue light blinks very quickly and eventually Explorer tells you to insert a disc--obviously, it's not seeing anything. I also attempted to burn a disc using the included Power2Go from Cyberlink. This was also a failure as it never got to the "write phase"--after 10 min of attempting to initialize the disc, I canceled the operation--another coaster.

I've ordered some Verbatim discs and also a BD-RE disc for further testing. I'm beginning to suspect that I have a defective burner. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ImgBurn is usually pretty foolproof for BD burning. I use Verbatim BD discs, and I would definitely try one. If it still fails, then maybe the burner is the problem. Verify can fail for a number of reasons. One is have AnyDVD running in the background on the PC. I don't verify as it's too late by then anyway. I just play them back to check for problems.
