  1. What programs, aside from Vob2mpg and Vob2mpgPro can be used to extract unmodified mpegs from DVDs?
I have an issue with them, that's why I want to try something different.

    TIA

I remember one of the older versions of TDA would also, i'm not sure about the newer versions though.

Huh... TDA does not link to the program....

NeroVision - been using it for years without a problem.

If you decide to give it a shot:

Load Disc, or Disc Image (ISO, NRG, etc)
Fire up NeroVision and select an Import Folder (More -> Configure... ->Folders tab and select a directory)
Make DvD -> DvD Video -> Import Disc -> Select drive with Disc (or Image)
All the disc titles will appear - select all those you want and hit "Ok"

When NV is finishes, all titles will appear on the interface, but most importantly, all associated .mpg files will be ready in your Import folder.

Believe it or not, you can use this software and method to pull streams from even non-formatted discs created from other software/hardware!

It sets up great DvD projects and is a good capture utility too. Good tool.

  5. videoRedo and Womble DVD Wizard, both are native mpeg editors too.

As an aside, I did mention NeroVision as an excellent, reliable VOB->MPEG-2 converter, and it is, but I don't recommend it for editing. An MPEG dedicated editor like TMPGEnc, Womble or VideoReDo would work better here.

Then again, pulling streams and editing them are two different sciences.

AVIDeMux can also be used. Drop a VOB on it and it will load them all. Set Video and Audio to copy, pick a container and there ya go.

  8. Thanks for the replies. I think I should've been a little more specific. First, the issue I'm having with Vob2MpgPro is here: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/326664-Vob2MpgPro-loss-of-audio-on-seek-forwardI
What I'm trying to do is concatenate all mpegs (28 in the case of PP DVDs) into one big one.

I did install several programs that were recommended above, but only tried Nerovision so far. I did get the individual mpegs extracted just fine, and was able to combine them into one big video that doesn't exhibit audio loss, but I'm not sure how much, if any, encoding nero vision does. (see attached pic) Since the resulting file will be encoded and reduiced with video4fuze to 224x176 for my daugghter's video player, that may not matter much, but I like to have as few encoding/recoding steps as possible.

    TIA

If you followed my instructions as posted you will experience zero quality loss. NeroVision makes equivalent .mpg files out of the DvD titles, even with all audio streams intact (you can verify this with a tool like MediaInfo and you will see multiple streams if the title has them). Keep in mind, it's not as simple as just renaming .vob to .mpg. NeroVision will remove any segmentation and indexing associated that could be in the .vob file for smooth stand-alone playback. (Which may address your other thread, I'll get there soon enough. )

Don't use NeroVision with editing. It's likely to re-encode. Use a dedicated MPEG editor for any edits, joins or even cuts, virtually lossless with VideoReDo, TMPGEnc MPEG Editor or Womble AFTER NeroVision pulled out the streams first.

You can go ahead and use the .mpg files Nero generated for you. They are "first generation" from the DvD's quality.
