  1. Hello there folks.
I have spent a lot of time over the past week trying to find a video converter, using the CUDA capabilities, that can convert my .mkv 720 video, with 6 channel audio, into an .m4v file with the same discrete 6 channel audio. Every attempt so far has resulted in a clean picture, but all of the center channel audio ends up in the left speaker, while the remaining surround sound channels are consolidated into the right speaker. Have any of you succeeded in using any of these converters and generating a file that can be played with the new Apple TV, while generating a true 5.1 surround sound experience?

Sounds like you are getting a poor 5.1 to 2 channel mix.

It would also help if you told us what you had already tried so that we either don't suggest things you have already had problems with, or can suggest how you might make one that you have used work for you. I assume you are trying to encode the audio to 5.1 AAC ?

  4. The ones that I have tried include ImTOO Apple TV Converter, Any Video Converter, Sothink Video Converter, and Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6. I have ensured that the once that offer a 5.1 AAC are in face enabled. Of the ones that I have tried, none have succeeded in generating a 5.1 surround sound audio track on my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xmedia Recode supports AC3 audio in an AppleTV compatible format, so you could keep the original audio. Xvid4PSP can also output AppleTV compatible files, and will convert AC3 to AAC while preserving 5.1 surround.

  6. Just two more questions about those suggestions.
    1. Can they both convert the .mkv format?
    2. Do either of them take advantage of the Nvidia Cuda speed boosts?

Both will handle .mkv source files
    Neither do CUDA
