I am currently having a problem with figuring out a system that would enable me to encode in realtime to Quicktime or WMV. I have a DVC Pro HD deck that I am either taking a composite or DVI out from, into a system that will capture and encode the video to Quicktime or WMV. I need to get footage out to producers same day, and without taking time from our editors on the Avid machines.
Basically I am short a person in post, I am not a post production person so I am trying to capture (and learn how to) take all of our shot tapes and convert to WMV or Quicktime while a second output from the DVC Pro Deck 1400 series is also sending video to our Avid system. I have consulted many people about this and I can't seem to find something under $2000 that will enable me to do this. Black Magic, and Telestream have gear that can do this but both systems are on back order, or won't be released for another month.
I don't have any computers that are able to take IDE cards and etc, just firewire and USB. I do have a ADVC 300 that I use for archival footage from analog sources. Since we only require SD quality I was considering something like the ADVC 300, but when I capture the footage I would need it to encode in realtime to either quicktime or WMV, and not AVI.
I am very open to purchasing gear or software, my budget is $1,000. If any one has any tips they would be greatly appreciated.
