I just bought a power supply. It is a PSU CORSAIR|CMPSU-550VX 550W RT. You can find it on newegg.com but its a 550W PS. Anyway, it has no voltage switch anywhere on it. It says:

    AC input: 100-240V ~ 8A 50/60Hz

and the AC Input Rating is:

    90-264VAC

Does anybody have any advice on how I can identify the voltage setting? Should I just assume its 110V since I bought it in the USA?

Its most likely and automatic switch that detects the voltage going into it so it works with either voltage.

That model auto scans and detects the correct voltage. No more little red button on these.

I had an older power supply laying around when I decided to build this new computer. It's the same wattage and everything, except now I'm having a bit of buyers guilt and wonder if I can get away with using a 7 year old power supply. Does anybody here have an opinion on that? I mean I could send this one back and get my $100 back, but I wonder if a 7+ year old power supply would be safe to use still. Thoughts?

Best to use the newer psu cause they have the 24pin connectors while the older psu has 20 pins and if you try plugging in the older 20 pin psu most likely you will have problems with the computer crashing or not even starting.

A seven year old power supply probably doesn't have the ATX 2.x connectors so wouldn't work with current motherboards, display cards or SATA drives.

    Sure it would be safe.

I've used ones quite a bit older than that.
The only part that could wear out is the fan, which you should clean, and might be able to replace if necessary. My casualties have been killed by power surges.

As others said, only issue is if it has the connections you need.

They're normally pretty easy to swap in and out, just see if it all works, run a hardware test CD for a few hours to stress it.
