Using WinFF I converted a vob to avi and then proceeded with virtualdub to edit. As I did that I noticed that the audio is out of sync and the vob had 2 titles in it. The first part of the avi or original title is not out of sync but the second one is out of sync. Original source (vob) is no longer available but is there a way to fix the audio. Pardon if this issue is off topic.

If the sync error is the same the length of the playback, you can add a audio offset, negative or positive, with Virtualdub. If the sync error gradually gets worse during playback, then the audio and video lengths are likely different. You can use a audio editor like the freeware Audacity to shrink or stretch the audio duration, then mux it back with the video.

Note that if you're using Virtualdub 1.8.x or 1.9.x, you can use fcchandler's MPEG2 plugin at

    http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/index.html

...to load the VOB file directly into Virtualdub without the intermediate avi conversion. Save you some time and quality that way, and possibly also eliminate the need to resync the audio.

The main lesson here folks is....avoid taking only one of the VOB files from the DVD. Plain and simple.

What do you mean? Because that was the only vob I wanted to edit, I disregarded the rest.

VOBs are an integrated part of the DVD structure and the whole movie is extended across several of them. There may be audio delays incorporated as part of the structure, depending on the DVD layout. Not all programs detect and properly handle these delays. Most times I just extract the whole DVD to a MPEG with VOB2MPG, then process or edit it.

Just FYI, Fcchandler's MPEG2 plugin for Virtualdub also allows you to load a DVD's VOB files together as a single virtual file. That also should prevent this problem in future.
