Software and application for Capturing..

Hey everyone, I'm new to this so I need some advice.

I would like to know what's the best software or application to use for taking screenshots and capturing video/movie??

Currently I'm using WinTv 2000 and it suck. When I try to capture a clip over 320x240, my computer freezes and crashes alot.
WinTv 2000 has a good way of capturing screenshots but the screenshots aren't very good at all. They are blurry and not very good at all. It there a better software for capturing clear screenshots in 800x600 resolution?

Check Hauppauge for snapshot.exe a still capture utility for use with WinTV cards. YOu can set it to capture up to 1600x1200

The thing is that the snapshot can be taken but they come up looking like crap. Too blurry and not sharp clear snapshots.
