I am using DVD Slideshow GUI, and would like to know if someone could explain to me the difference between exposition and duration. I am kinda confused. It's a great program, but i'm stuck on this little tid-bit of confusion regarding these two parameters. thanks in advance to everyone!
Also, would someone suggest a way to produce a video that can be seen pretty dang clear on my tv? thanks!

  2. From the DSG help:

Exposition: Shows the number of frames the image will be visible before the transition.

Duration: Shows the number of frames of the transition between the current slide and the next.

    What do you mean?

I think it's a great program and very easy to use. Thanks for the hard work that went into it..........

The only thing I'd like to see is a Preset that will keep the images 1:1 of original size. I always pre-crop all images prior to import anyway and that would allow me to create Hi-Def slideshows like 1920 x1080 and 1280 x 720. That's what I like to create now that I have an HDTV.

Is there any way too create a custom preset like that? I would prefere to export to an AVS script that I can latter encode to the format of choice.

    Thanks,
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

    Hi,

Just started using this software. Still maintained?
    Im using win7 x64 with 4gb ram with intel e8400 core2duo processor

    2 questions:
    - is is possible the change the temp folder? Now data is written to the windows users folder: C:\Users\...\.DVDslideshowGUI
    - so far I didnt succeed to make a successful export Some time after the encoding executable is called it terminates abnormally without a proper error message. If I choose [burn to disc] the burning process is started, despite the fact that the encoding process has failed..

    Kind regards!

  6. I don't have Win 7 x64, so I can't confirm if that is related to your troubles. Maybe you could look in the doom9.org forums for Avisynth builds for a x64 setup or HCenc(encoder) builds for x64.

The Temp folder can't be changed - it's hardcoded.

What version of DSG are you using?

    Does it preview all right?

When installing did you install the included Avisynth? DSG will not work without it.

I'm a newbie here... and this is my first post.

I'm hoping someone can help me with DVD Slideshow GUI v.0.9.3.8. I think it is a great program and am excited at the prospect of creating and sharing slideshows on DVD. However, this is where the problems for me began.

I have a nice stack Verbatim DVD-R coasters next to me after various unsuccessful and highly frustrating attempts to create a DVD that will play on a stand-alone DVD player.

For testing purposes I created a short 7 slide show, the last slide is an .avi. This show previews beautifully within the DVD Slideshow program. My problem is getting the slideshow onto a DVD.

Each time I've tried burn the show to a DVD I get a disc that cannot be played on either my PC nor stand alone player. I tried all sorts of things and can't tell you how frustrating it has been to spend hours with no results.

    So my questions are:

    1. Can someone tell me step-by-step the process to create a DVD using DVD Slideshow GUI that can be viewed on any DVD player (not the computer).

    2. I exported my slideshow to an .iso file and used Nero 8 Burning Rom to put it onto a DVD. The .so file was created just fine (I could open and view it on my PC). However when I used NERO 8 to put it onto a DVD the resulting DVD cannot be played on any player. Curioulsy, Windows Explorer shows NOTHING when I open the DVD to see what files are written to it. How come?

    3. WHen I tried File>Burn to Disc the encoder runs and opens IMGburn, which runs without errors but the resulting DVD that is created cannot be played on the PC or any other DVD player.

    Here's the IMGBurn log:

    4. After all my attempts, I now see that the File>Export DVD Menu item is greyed out. I was able to access this command before and now it is greyed out. Why?

    Any help is gratefully appreciated!

    Thanks in Advance,

If it's greyed out you're using a resolution which is not a DVD resolution - the 720p and 1080p resolutions are Blu-Ray/HD resolutions and the resulting disks will not be playable on a non-Blu-Ray standalone players.

If you are using a dvd resolution and you're from Vancouver you should use a NTSC resolution/framerate(either #2 or #4 under Presets). Alternatively you could try to update Imgburn and update the driver for your DVD drive.

Let me know if any of this works for you.

Here's a tutorial for the basic functions: http://blip.tv/file/2624714/

Thanks so much for your super fast reply!

Yes, you are correct that I had selected a non DVD resolution, which is why the "Export to DVD" menu selection was greyed out. I am in Canada, so will need to use an NTSC resolution.

I was using ImgBurn 2.5.0.0 and I have upgraded to 2.5.2.0 (the latest version). I wll again try to create a DVD and will let you know how it works.

In the meantime I have a question about exporting a slideshow to .AVI format.

I exported a 252 slide slideshow (including about 5 .avi files) to .AVI format using DVD Slideshow GUI. It works fine, however, the images in the resulting movie are 'squished' (narrowed).

I chose 1280x720x25 (16:9) format. When I play back the created .AVI using Windows Media Player, the slides look 'squished' (narrow). This effect is especially noticeable on the movie clips in the slideshow. Although the movie plays fine, the distorted images, and movie clips don't look right.

How can I fix this? Should I choose a different resolution setting? What else do I need to do to ensure the created .AVI will display the images in the correct proportions?

    Thanks again for your help!
    -Alex.

  10. If you use VLC or Media Player Classic (included with DVD slideshow GUI) you can right click and change the video format from 4:3 to 16:9.

I would proberly user mp4 for High Res slideshows and not avi(the bitrate is not that high). Alternatively you can export to .avs and load that file into ex. Super and render an avi with a higher bitrate.

I'm having problems trying to export my slideshow to .mp4 format, as you suggested this was better than .avi and would solve the 'squished' images problem.

I tried a test export to .mp4 using a smaller set of slides (4 images plus 2 .avi movies) and it worked fine. I chose 720p (1280x720x25 (16:9) resolution setting. On this render the images and movie clips display properly with no aspect ratio distortion.

However, when I try to render a slideshow with 232 images including 5 .avi clips it gives me the following error message in Media Player Classic: "Cannot Render File".

What might be causing the render to fail?

Thanks for your help so far.

If you succesfully exported the same amount of slides to avi in the same resolution the only thing I can think of is that you might have run out of free space on your harddisk - or else you might be out of RAM and you could try to higher the virtual RAM - see the FAQ on the DSG homepage.
