I have bought a Toshiba RDXV49DTKF Combo DVD to convert all my old VHS tapes into DVD.

I have copied some of them, but an error appears in some others, it says 'It can't be copied, the content is copyrighted'. How can this be possible?? What I am trying to copy are concerts or programs that I recorded from TV some years ago, so they can't be copyrighted.

Any idea about what it's going on or what to do to solve the problem???

    Thanks a lot in advance

  2. Do the tapes have the tab popped out (easy) or possibly macrovision, but that shouldn't be on something you home recorded. Rather than that combo unit, your best bit is to use a PC tv tuner with capture options or a dazzle to import the VHS right into an mpg file. You can then burn it to dvd with nice menus and all with the right software. Just get a newer VCR with RCA video out ports, plug into the tuner, press play and record it right onto your HD.

If you are in Europe....that MUST be a false error warning. I've never come across a PAL VHS tape that I could not copy with a DVD Recorder or capture card.

Probably in need of a TBC to fix the signal. Macrovision protection is basically a deliberately introduce error in the signal. A real error can therefore sometime look like the false Macrovision error. A TBC will fix the error and allow you to copy the tape.

Another good reason not to buy all-in-one units (and to curse Macrovision). If the tape is a bit old and the picture fluctuates a bit, the hardware is probably detecting this as Macrovision copy provision. You need to connect a Time Base Corrector, sometimes mareked as a Video Stabiliser, between the VCR and the DVD recorder. Of course, if it's an integrated unit you may not ba able to do this...
