  1. i have heard from many people that did reviews on this dvd player that it can play videos that are not in vcd format. In other words, you can burn an mpg to a cd an play it on the dvd player. I have been trying that so many times. Is it the file type i put on the cd? Can anyone help me?

  2. The cd still has to be burned as a videocd (not just an mpg file on a data cd), I think what they meant was the mpg movie itself does not have to be a 100% VCD compliant movie. In other words it can be an XVCD (ie. non-standard resolution / bitrate).

  3. the cd DOESN'T have to be burned as a VCD. you can play MPGs straight from a data disc. not to say all will play fine, some will give you errors while some will look fine. it can also play XVCD, XSVCD, but it CAN play MPGs from disc.

if you are not sure or do not know, please reframe from posting false info.

  5. i tried yesterday to play a mpeg but it took like 5min to load and in the end it said no cd. I was so mad I got this idea from the reviews on this site about the Apex-AD1500. Can anyone tell me what is the problem? Is it the codec that i am using to burn the movie?

  6. I bought an Apex-AD1500 machine for the expressed purpose of playing digital media files, whether they were VCDs, DVDs, MP3s, etc.

The machine works like a charm for me.

All that's needed is an MPEG-1/2 file (or MP3 for music) burned onto a CD. When you insert the CD, the Apex acts as if the CD is an MP3 CD and will give you a directory structure. Use the arrow keys on your remote control to highlight the MPEG file and press the Enter key. That's it.

Now, the machine doesn't give the absolute best quality, but in my experience it plays about everything that you throw at it.

Are the MPEGs you are burning otherwise ready for VCD or SVCD creation? Just a thought, but the 1500 may require them to have resolutions in multiples of 16. If you are trying to play an MPEG file on a data disc that is, say, 375x401 then the player may have trouble. I don't know for sure, but I have played MPEGs that were created with making VCDs or SVCD or even DVDs (4500kbps) in mind.

  8. I own a APEX-AD1500. For some reason I can not get it to play MPEG files. Is there any special way to burn them on CD. Or does the APEX play MPEG1 or MPEG2. Please HELP?

  9. I have an Apex-AD1500, I can't play mpg file either. It will list on the directory listing like the mp3 but it will not play any mpg files.

  10. When you get to the MP3 menu, use the directional buttons to "highlight" the MPEG file you want to play, then press the big button in the middle of the direction buttons. I've played discs that had both MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 files on them to do an instant comparison between formats. Quite useful in showing how bad VCD quality really is.
