Like your regular f'idiot, I signed up to do a university course involving media and film. So one of my subjects requires I get a two minute capture from a film and discuss the use of sounds, images, and texts in the excerpt. Problem is, when I use Handbrake to capture the segment I want and then try to edit it down in Final Cut or iMovie, both programs act like it is the devil and simply will not load it no matter what different ways I rip it. Can someone please tell me the correct programs and/or settings to use to make a short clip out of a film so I can show it to the class for two minutes then prattle on about why I chose it for another ten?

	If from a Commercial DVD:

 1. Rip with MacTheRipper
 2. Open in MpegStreamclip ( with QT-Mpeg-2 add-on)
 3. Convert in Mpegstreamclip to DV file
 4. Open DV file in FCP or iMovie

 If from a homemade DVD:
 1. Open in MpegStreamclip ( with QT-Mpeg-2 add-on)
 2. Convert in Mpegstreamclip to DV file
 3. Open DV file in FCP or iMovie

FCP and iMovie favor DV Stream files. Therefore, your DVD compliant Mpeg-2 files
must be transcoded into DV Stream format so that FCP or iMovie doesn't
"act like the devil", and can allow you to manipulate the footage.
