I guess you mean video editor software? Authoring is mainly for making dvd and blu-ray menus and such.

I updated the thread title and moved you to our editing section.

And no, I don't know what they used.

You mean the book thing? That could be built rather quickly in any of the pro packages but it could be a canned template. Any experienced editor could build it in a day. It might take months for a novice to climb the learning curve.

I see why they made such an elaborate transition. The actual footage is quite underwhelming.

If you have good, interesting, video that's edited well, you don't need these "props" to keep people watching. This technique is known as "putting a $10 cut on a .50 cent head".

Anyway, they made a large graphic still image, with "snapshots" from the transition points as "photos", then zoomed in and out on the photos using a "dissolve".

Any decent NLE can do this, the process is quite simple, but it's your technique that makes it work. To be fair, it does show well, and look professional, but the timing of the motion is critical. I would say this was done in Sony Vegas because it looks like the velocity tool was used.

I doubt this kind of thing can be "templated", because there's too many variables that need hand adjusting.

Old Saying: It's not the gear, it's the technique"

thanks for taking time to offer comments and i agree with you but IMHO the majority of people are not interested in any artistic creation, they just love pretty movements!

You are also right about the variables, but i also think i am raight about pinnacle being used.

Here's something simple, but compelling. The first few frames are a still image, then a transition to the "live" helicopter.

I shot this a few days ago with a handheld simple camera on a "lark", just happened to drive by a small airport in the desert. What I like about it is the sunset atmosphere, which you can say is my "art" effort. I have another in full daylight, but it isn't as interesting.

Here's a still that I think is "artistic". I shot this a few days ago too. So by art, what I mean is inherently "interesting", needing no supporting material to relieve boredom.

I can't open the first link of the original post, but the latter was definitely made with iMovie on a Mac. They have automatic themes and transitions and it's real easy to do, you literally just drag and top footage in. Probably took the guy less than an hour.

Good package for beginners too, providing you have a Mac

Do they have a Santa Claus one? Like for the holidays? Or one for Valentine's day? What about one for cats?

Not sure if you're being serious here budwzr :P

I just fired it up and you get 7 themes you can use with those fancy transitions... Namely...

    Photo Album
    Bulletin Board
Comic Book (the one used in those videos)
    Scrapbook
    Filmstrip
    Newscast
    Sports

You can see previews here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9WMAQhA-2s&feature=related

So I guess no, not a holiday themed one, or one for cats :P

They also have the Movie Trailer themes if you have the latest version. Here is an example I spotted on Youtube...

Like I say, for beginners it's a nice and easy way to dip your toes and make something which looks pretty cool. I generally use Vegas myself for most things, but as a nice quick way to throw some holiday footage together to show the folks, I've used it a couple of times.
