  1. I know that this topic has probably been covered before but, I can't find it. I burned a couple of VCDs using Roxio's Videopack. They played fine on a friends Apex but nothing else except my PC. Is there a better burning program for compatibility?

Check whether your DVD player plays VCDs, and also whether it is happy with CDR(W). Some of the higher end players are very picky about what they play. Better being a cheapskate like the rest of us. 8)

  4. Sun,

Sometimes even your player is picky about the type or companey of disk it plays. Look on the DVD Players List on the left and read what people are using....

  5. hi steve,
could it also be a burner problem? maybe i need a new burner?
when i insert the vcd into the player, the player recognizes the length of the clip. but if freezes the machine up. i have to power off/on just to eject the vcd...

  6. I'll throw my two cents into the mix....From all I have read on the forum, I have heard that roxio's product is not too good when it comes to making compliant VCD's.

I have heard some bad things about nero's product. I personally, use nero and have never had a problem burning and viewing a compliant (and most non compliant VCD/SVCD's). I have a cheapest player, the apex 1100W (1mb version) which I bought at wallyworld (wal-mart for people not familiar with wallyworld) for $65.00.

A suggestion to see if the burning software is the issue is to download the evaluation copy of nero from their site and burn the same video and see if it plays on your DVD player.

As you probably know, there are a million things that can cause it not to play from the type of DVD player that you have (non compliance, not playing VCD's even though the box says that it does, etc), out of spec/compliance, burning software, CD media, burn speed (heard lower is better), actual burner, etc. etc.

  8. Sun,

Try finding someone who has the same player and asking them what they use. Try some of your friends CD-RWs too.
