I am using windv to transfer video back onto minidv tape from pc but it's not recording the sound. Any help please? Unfortunately file is 12Gb, an hour's play so too big to put on dvd.

I imagine so. It was taken from a camcorder using minidv tapes so I'm assuming it'll return in the same format and size. Maybe I'm expecting too much. It was downloaded to Windows Video file.

Use mediainfo to confirm what you actually have. A windows video file doesn't tell you much. If it is a WMV file then it is not DV compliant and must be converted.
