Hi guys, I've hit a snag here. I usually use mkv2vob to convert my MKVs to MP4s with subs. Apparently I ran into a problem where the file has VFR. So i did the conversion and of course the Video is out of sync with the Audio. I searched around on the forums and someone mentioned using Handbrake which is another program I frequently use to convert AVIs to MP4s. I did the conversion with Handbrake and the Video synced well. Problem now is subs. I researched more that Handbrake doesn't support hardsubs. Or does it? I watch my vids off of my PS3 so I always convert vids with hardsubs. Bu this VFR issue is a problem. Any well recommended program that can work with VFR MKVs and do hardsubs? I tried Xvid4PSP but that doesn't work with embedded subs into the MKV. I'm just trying to avoid the hassle here of extracting the subs and all that too.

But if the solution lies in me having to extract the Video, Audio, and Subs from an MKV and use (forgot the name of the program here) to pack into an MP4. I will go that route. But has anyone done that to MKV's with variable framerates?

    Thanks if someone replies!

I remember AlanHK saying that Format Factory instals a lot of unwanted codecs and stuff that he found difficult to remove. Is there any way to avoid that?

thank you for making me aware of that... i did notice the change in settings with my codecs... i use a combination of both CCCP and CoreAVC... what happened to me was that it defaulted both the settings in my FFDShow Filter cancelling out my CoreAVC... all i id then was uninstall CCCP and reinstalled it... during the installation of CCCP it asked me disable a few codecs that came with Format Factory i believe because it never asked before... so i disabled H264 in my FFDShow settings... set CoreAVC as my external filter in MPC... and bam... im back to where i was before...

as for the unwanted codecs that came with Format Factory... they dont seem to be in the way of my CCCP and CoreAVC at all... i believe they are mostly meant for the purpose of using Format Factory and thats it... so if you do get rid of codecs that came with Format Factory you probably may make that program unusable... that is just my theory on the matter as those codecs im not even going to touch or bother...

if it bothers you that much... i say reformat the entire computer so you get a clean slate... install Format Factory first... then the CCCP Package... (along with CoreAVC if you need to)...

Hmm, what you say just makes me even more reluctant to instal Format Factory.
It's probably fine for someone who doesn't use any other video applications, but anything that messes with existing settings (without a choice or even a warning) is a no-no for me.

    Just my 2c.

Basically, it's a codec pack with a converter that uses these.

The installer did not give you any choice of using existing codecs; it installed a whole bunch in its own folders and these replaced any existing codecs, even if they were the same ones in a different location.

It'd be fine if it just installed the converter front end and let you choose if and where to install any codecs. But it just pushes everything else aside.

Where in my case after my daughter installed it to try to convert some videos for her phone, most of my video programs were broken and it took me hours to work out what was wrong and undo it.

So try it at your own risk.

i already did and all my video programs are fine... i even listed what i did to resolve my issue... but this case is different for different people... so all in all... it works for me... it may screw some others up... my situation for this thread is resolved... so then... thread closed... because any more reviews bout format factory has nothing to do with my problem of tryin to watch vids with variable framerates on my ps3 in mp4 formats...

    peace and thanks...!!

Guess what, you don't have the power to declare a "thread closed" if you don't like people disagreeing with you.

Thanks for the program. do you know why subtitles aren't showing up with correct font when I use formatfactory though?
