I'm getting ready to get an HDTV and am on the lookout for an American-sold BluRay player that meets the following specs:
1. Region-Free
2. Capable of outputting 1080/50i signal (usually, only British TV releases come out in this format in the UK)
3. Capable of CONVERTING a 1080/50i signal into 1080/60i (in the case where certain TVs can't handle a 50i signal coming in). Would even be nicer if the player could be forced to either output 50i or convert (like you can force some DVD players to play NTSC-only or PAL-only)
In the research I've done so far, I've found players that could fulfill the first criteria ONLY or could fulfill 2 and/or 3 only, but none that could do all three. Would like to be able to buy a BluRay player that can do all this so I could take it to the store (with a 50i disc in hand) and test the displays to see if any of them can handle 50i.
Also, if anybody here knows of US-marketed TVs that can DEFINITELY handle a 50i HD signal coming into it, that'd be most helpful, too, and might keep the wife off my back about just going ahead and deciding on a TV!!!
