    Hi all.

I picked up one of those portable scanners, by VuPoint. I needed one for various reasons like when I need to copy some papers, receipts, and my checks--when I write them out at the post office, it just makes it easy to photo-copy it.

My problem is, I don't get it.. after I scan a document or my check I need for the scans to fit on your standard letter 8x11 size, no matter if I'm scanning a check or receipt or a full letter size page.

Right now, the sizes vary, like 1200x2000 or something, i forget because i only took a quick look and the resolution, now I forget. Anyway. I was using the 200 dpi, monochrom mode, (there's also 600 dpi) because i'm pretty sure that is all i need if i'm just trying to make your standard letter size photo copy
I want to scan-and-go, where ever I am, and then pop in the mini card into my card reader and do my thing. I'm doing this under windows xp home edition. So far, no problems with this new gizmo, theres lots of possibilities. I'm running out now to write a check so this will be my first time official use for it.

What "link" am I missing at acomplishing this ?

    thank you.

  2. I'm not sure I understand the question.

1200x2000 is not a Size, it is a Resolution. (way too high for most documents, IMO).

You could print such an image in any size you want, just like a photograph. Whatever you use to print will resize it to whatever dimensions you wish.

  4. It depends on the software you are using. If the software maintains the dpi then the print size should equal the source. For example, a letter sized page scanned at 300 dpi then printed out at 300 dpi should print the same size as the source. But if the saved document doesn't include the dpi information, or if the software is ignoring it, you will have to manually specify the dpi. Jpeg files can include the dpi information.

Many printing applications have an automatic "scale to paper size" option. If your application doesn't you can manually set the dpi so that the image size matches the page (or any arbitrary) size.

print size = image size / dpi

For example, a 1200 pixel wide image printed at 300 dpi will be 4 inches wide.

The resolution I posted earlier was not the actual one. I was trying to point out that it is a high number, but which varies depending on the dpi settings I used. I just couldn't remember and picked a number. Sorry for the confusion.

that might be the missing link in my brain--scale to fit. Anyway.

At work, we have xerox printer that features scan2email, and when I scan papers, they are exactly the size they are when scanned, crisp and clean, all within the 8x11 in. I'm not sure I fully understand yet, how these things all work, size; resolution; dpi; etc., but I'm slowly getting there.

I have upgraded to a slightly better scanner (for my home desktop pc) the Xerox Travel Scanner 100, it has sheetfeed built in.

I now realize I need something a little more steadier to work with. The VuPoint will be used for when i'm on the road and need something scanned quickly. I'm going to concentrate on other scanner equip and techniques in the interim and focus my questions for them.

I have new questions but relate to my latest scanner and I will open a new thread on that unit.

    Thank you guys.
