  1. Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get svcds to work in my jvc xvs45-gd. It recognizes and starts playing them, but there is no picture. Vcds play fine. Recently, I read about a trick to get svcds to work by giving them a vcd header(http://forum.sharereactor.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12327&perpage=15&pagenumber=1). Basically it's supposed to trick the player into thinking its playing a vcd. I tried this and the movie plays, but the picture is all messed up (filled with green blocks) and playback is choppy. I tried burning twice, with the same results. I checked the compatibility list, but there isn't much info on my player yet. Are there any other options to get this thing to play svcds, or will I have to convert the movie to mpeg1? Thanks in advance.

  2. You may be SOL. I know on my Sony I have to merge/cut as a non-compliant VCD then burn as a non-compliant VCD. But, I found if I encode as a higher bitrate a VCD will look just as good as (some) SVCDs.

So basically I use my Sony for DVDs only. Bought an APEX 1100W and it plays SVCDs, XVCDs, VCDs, XVCDs, JPEGS, MP3s, CDs and DVDS. No screwing around merging/cutting, etc. For 73.00 its worth it. If the thing goes bad I will buy another one.
