if this is true it will certainly be a shot across intel's bow, intel's 6-core costs $1000, at $200 clams an amd cpu would compare very nicely against intel's $200 offerings.

it will be interesting to see if this turns out to be true and if so, how will intel respond (though i personally doubt they will).

And right through their own foot. Obviously, the price is not true. At least not this year.

i don't see why it's out of the realm of possibility, amd does have quad cores under $100 and they need something to compete effectively at the $200 price point, a 6-core would be just the ticket, especially if intel does release sandy bridge by the end of this year.

Wouldn't you think they would ask for at least half the price Intel is asking??

I would believe it if they were saying the price may be around $800-900

    just ran across this:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/PAX-AMD-Phenom-II-X6,10004.html

For starters, the Phenom II X6 is right over the horizon. While AMD wouldn't officially comment on some of the CPU's specifics, they did say that most of the rumors are (generally) true. This means that rumblings like the series name (1000T), and the specific model numbers (1075T, 1055T, 1035T), shouldn't change when the processors are officially revealed next month.

AMD did confirm that its six-core processors will be under $300, including a Black Edition variant, which puts them at the same price point as Intel's Core i7 860, 920 and 930 and well below the $1000 asking price of Intel's Core i7 980X Extreme. Without getting too specific, AMD talked about several features present in the Phenom II X6 CPUs that line up well with features found in the competition.
it looks like $200 6-core cpu's are almost here.

Surprised! I didn't think they would go that low with Intel's asking price but I like it, A LOT!

I'm not disappointed with my buy either. It makes me think about waiting a little bit for my new build. Seeing those new GPU's with the 6 display ports is pretty sweet, not disappointed with my GTX 260 though.

I see a huge jump with my future build
