more than likely you will be able to just do a straight copy.

The DVD-R or CD-R in this case is likely just a standard Data disc format, not "DVD-Video" or "VideoCD" or anything like that. Comics often come with specialty readers as Zipped JPEGs (can't remember the common extension for them right now).
You should be able to compile multiple CD-R discs onto 1 DVD-R discs by sorting each into a folder (with the reader/player in the root).
If you're wanting to go DVD-R-->CD-R, then just copy as much as will fit on the CD-R (leaving a little for the reader/player). There's no way a SINGLE comic is going to be too huge, so it's your own choice how you break the comix up.

The zipped or rar'ed jpegs that cornucopia is talking about are .cbz or .cbr extension, respectively.
The application used to view them is called "cdisplay"
And as he said, you can just copy and break them up however you see fit -
Most likely in CBR (Comic Book Reader) format -- which are standard images (JPEG, GIF, PNG) compiled in a RAR (or sometimes ZIP) file. You can extract the images using WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc.
But most convenient to read them on your PC using a reader, like the original CDisplay

or other viewer like Comical: http://comical.sourceforge.net/
or ComicRack http://comicrack.cyolito.com/
Though sometimes you might see them as a PDF file, in which case you use Acrobat, of course. -
On the other hand, most digital comics (in cbr/cbz form) are pirated.
Don't get me wrong. I actually found out about this method and have archived some of my books this way, but if you're getting them from someone else, they're illegal copies.
It always perplexes me that someone will sign up for this site (VideoHelp) and their first post will be about rars, the answer to a school programming project, or this very odd one about reading comics.
And why is it that when people are sent material, they never ask the sender/creator these questions? "My brother sent me these RAR files. What do I do with them?" Gee, Idunno. Maybe ask your brother about it.
