Hi,I have recently upgraded form a dvd player to a Sony Blu ray
However, when my dvd player was connected via HDMI through my Yamaha amp to my projecter the picure was excellent at 1080i,since i have connected the blu ray the image has started flickering at the same resolution and lower,
Could this be a cable issue or a conflivt via the yamaha's hdmi switching?

  2. Bypass the amp and go straight to the TV. Still flickering?

It sounds like you amp is somehow incompatible. The last possibility is that the cable from the DVD/BD player to the Amp is marginal. Different devices have different tolerances for marginal cables. So maybe the DVD player puts out a slightly stronger/cleaner signal than the BD player. Then the marginal cable is degrading the signal just enough to screw up the BD signal.

I don't suppose the fact that my HDMI cable goes through a DVI connector into the projector would make a difference?
Never had the problem with the upscaling LG dvd player

    It shouldn't.

Do you TV and Amp run at the same HDMI level ? Does the cable match as well ?

I'm not using full HD 1080p because my projector doesn't support full HD,as i was saying to JAGABO I was running an upscale DVD player through the Amp with the same cabling and no problem.
I have just spent a small fortune on a new HDMI cable so I'll try it tonight.
Where could I find Yamaha remote control codes for the sony S-360 blu ray player or an LG Projector?

I am not talking about resolution, I am talking about the HDMI revision. Your devices must talk at the same revision - e.g. 1.1, 1/2, 1.3 or 1.4, and your cable must match.

As i was saying my Projector supports up to 1.1 and the amp is version 1.1 but the blu ray is obviously 1.3
I only have issues when using my Amp to switch from the projector to the TV.if I run the HDMI directly from the Blu ray to the projector it's perfect.

  11. Can the amp give you any information about the video properties? Maybe it's telling the player it can handle formats (YUV vs RGB, high color depth, etc.) the projector can't handle.

    How long are these cables?

Am I understanding correctly you have the Blu-Ray player set to 1080i ?

Does it flicker at lower settings (480i, 480p, 720p) ?

Yes it does,Cable distance between amp and blu ray 1m distance from amp to projector 8m
If I run the cable directly from the Blu ray to the projector it is fine at all sttings right up to 1080i
as soon as I run it via the Yamaha amp to use the HDMI switching is when the trouble starts.

  15. 8m is pretty long for an HDMI run. It will require a good cable. Cost does not necessarily equate to quality. Move the projector closer to the amp and use a short cable. Any difference?

Long cable runs cause timing clocks to slope due to high frequency roll off. Eventually you get pixelation. Are you seeing pixelation or full field flicker? Flicker is a low frequency issue.

I suspect the HDMI chipset in the AV receiver. It must extract audio then reclock for output. It would be interesting to test a shorter cable.

JAGABO,edDV What frequency does full HD run at? I suppose it is Display specific?

Higher quality DVI/HDMI cables address the long cable frequency rolloff issues with larger guage central wire, better dielectric materials and double or tripple shielding for noise reduction. This has nothing to do with the Monster claims.

    HDMI supports various frequencies
v.1.3 Category 1 goes to 74.5 MHz (tested for certification)
    v.1.3 Category 2 (1080p60 and 2160p30) requires 340 MHz certification.

Early cables may not meet Category 1 certification. Even with Category 1 spec, max suggested cable length is 16 feet (5m).
