Does the tv have A/V outputs ... if so then you can connect these to the A/V inputs on the device ... however you wont see what its recording and need to refer to the user manual ... basically go to the channel the show will be on the tv and on the dvd recorder select a/v input and choose record to hd ... make sure you choose the correct a/v input, it has two.

    Is the channel digital ?

If so you might consider the pass-through method using topset box which works for both analog and digital.

Topset box a/v output to recorders a/v input ... recorders a/v output to tv a/v input

Turn topset box and recorder on ... then tv , choose a/v input channel ... if setup correctly you should see the menu from the recorder ... go through the recorders menu to select a/v input channel which has the topset box connected ... you will need to refer to the operations manual ... some show thumbnail of whats on the channel others just use the enter button.

If this unit use's the thumbnail preview method ... using the remote from the topset box switch through to the required channel ... Go back to recorder and set a/v input channel as default.

Refer to recorders manual as to how to start recording to hd

Few current TV sets have video outputs, only inputs. Some older TV sets may have standard definition outputs.
