under 'filters', the 'vob subtitles' option:

the default subtitles font list does not contain the language i need. i have all the truetype fonts i need installed on my computer, and they work with vlc, textedit, ms office, etc., etc... anyway, basically what happens with ffmpegx is i can get the encoding right, but without the proper font chosen, all i get are either garbage characters or simple underscores (just looks like a bunch of lines) in place of where characters should be. surely there has to be a way to add another font to the list? it looks like this question has been asked but i can't seem to find any definite answers, so i'm asking again--sorry.

the language i am working with is korean, if that's of any help.

Korean texts may be encoded with EUC-KR, CP949, ISO-2022-KR, UTF-8 or UTF-16; I suppose Code Page 949 being the most common for SRT. But you still need a font with Hangul characters to display these texts.
It looks like these is no such font in ffmpegX's font list, and I do not know of a way to add fonts to that list. ffmpegX will not use the system's fonts, but only uses these fonts that came with the installation of ffmpegX.

This may solve the problem as you have posed it but Submerge lets you use your installed fonts. You then may author the movie (but with embedded subtitles which may not be acceptable to you).
