Subtitles - colour and font size

Are there any software DVD players that allow you to set the colour of the subtitles on officialy released discs and perhaps even the font size (and type?) used?

I have some Anime DVDs that not only use a font that seems to be too large, but that also display the subtitles in yellow.

Or is my only option to rip the DVDs and subs and re-encode with the relevant subtitle requirements?

Although I suppose there could be players that would allow you to adjust the subtitle colors, I don't know of any. I don't think it would be possible to adjust the size using just the player. I could easily be wrong about that, though, as I don't play DVDs using Software players.

With the DVD files on the hard drive it's a simple matter to adjust the subtitle colors permanently using either PGCEdit or DVDSubEdit. Since I don't much like yellow subs either I do it all the time. Then you'd just reburn the DVD. Changing the size is a bit more difficult, involving demuxing the DVD video, making BMPs with smaller writing on them, before then remuxing and burning to disc. If you want to change the font itself, then you'd have to OCR the subs and create fresh BMPs using the font and size of your choice. In principle it's all fairly easy, though. No reencoding would be involved.
