It's been a few years since I was last actively digitizing content for archival. I have more to do now (this time personal, vhs and svhs) and am going through my equipment to see what's still working. Admittedly I'm a bit out of date.

I have a JVC 9911U which did wonders two years ago, and it appears to be working still, which is amazing considering that it is a veritable tin box that feels like it would break if you looked at it wrong. Is it still a well-regarded source player for VHS and SVHS capture, particularly of somewhat older tapes?

As an aside, I'm surprised (after reading some posts for a while) to learn that the state of analog capture hasn't changed at all in the last few years. You either pay $$$$$ for pro gear, $$$$ for Canopus, or $$ for a Theater card and HuffYUV or whatnaught. Amazing how little change there has been....

Looks like I might as well stay with what I have. I've noticed some issues with the 9911U interfacing with more modern equipment (my Onkyo TX-SR5007 receiver has trouble maintaining video sync with it, even with all the processing turned off) but it still seems to work great as a playback device.
