Hi guys!
Would it be better to use HCenc for that kind of job?
or QuEnc will do the job just as good?
i ask this because AVS2DVD sets by default that conversion should be done with QuEnc...
But i can change that to HCenc 1-pass or HCenc 2-pass if i want....
What Do you guys think?
thanks alot for helping!

i need a new PC... mine is so old... and only have 512MB DDR1 in it....
it took me 90 minutes to encode a 700mb movie using QuEnc 1-Pass....
Same movie took me almost 2 hours using HCenc 1-Pass
here's 2 screenshot to compare output quality:
#1. QuEnc --> http://i47.tinypic.com/2wpqc61.png
#2. HCenc --> http://i47.tinypic.com/3r885.png
Who came out best you think?
thanks! -
I think the second has slightly sharper detail, however still images don't really do justice to the quality of video compression. HCEnc excels at low bitrate encoding, and the (relatively) small increase in time taken to encode (and 30 minutes is not that big a deal, to be honest), is, for my money, worth it for the extra quality that HCEnc will bring.

Avs2dvd can detect wether you need a two pass conversion or not, if it detects the bitrate is to low it will use hcenc 2 pass, if its a small video (30min) it will detect that a 2 pass conversion is not needed because it will use a high bitrate on both and it select Quenc since the one pass conversion with quenc is fastter and the the quality is the same as Hcenc because of the high bitrate.
you can select at which bitrate avs2dvd triggers the hcenc/quenc selection.I love it when a plan comes together! -
yeah i see...
but if im not an hardcore fan :P
So basically, Avs2DVD will always output the best quality?
Without me, needing to tweak the settings? -
what avs2dvd uses to determine if it will use a 2 pass conversion or not is the bitrate, below a certain bitrate it will pick hcenc 2 pass, above that bitrate it will pick quenc 1 pass, what you can do if you're uncertain is to cut 10% of your avi and convert it but selecting 440MB as your dvd size.
But the more you mess with it the more uncertain you get, using bitrate is not a follprof method bu it works, there will be exceptions but nothing is perfect.I love it when a plan comes together! -
exactly that is near a foolproof solution eheheheh

i made 3 DVDs using the same Movie + AVS2DVD for the encoding process,,,
So i made 1 DVD using QcENc,
then 1 DVD using HCenc 1-Pass,
finally another one using HCenc 2-Pass....
Here's the results --> http://rapidshare.com/files/343247210/TEST.7z.html (3,49MB)
Which of these 3 Encoders had best quality in your opinion?Last edited by eskro; 30th Jan 2010 at 06:57.

Well the thing is, AVStoDVD checks the source file and automatically chooses the Best Encoder to use!
Like when it detects Low Video Bitrates, AVStoDVD will auto-choose HCenc 1-pass
and
Like when it detects High Video Bitrates, AVStoDVD will auto-choose QcEnc
But, you can always choose which one you want manually...
so thats what i do...
i always use HCenc 2-pass
Even tho it takes longer to encode i dont mind...
I always do the encoding when im sleeping at night...
If not let AVStoDVD select which one is Best and you'll see,
you'll have great quality anyways!
Like i said,
i made a TEST using the movie --> 9 (2009)
