Hi there, I've been using mkv2vob to play 720p mkv's on my ps3. They play fine.

However, blacks (mostly blacks, but other colors too) are being washed out. Which gives the output a noticeable quality loss, grainy looking.

    I never transcode the video.

    [Settings used]
    Output Type: File
    Video Transcoding: None
    File Splitting: None
    Output File Extension: Automatic
Transcoding Codec: x264 High Bitrate (Slow)

    Look at the black difference!!!

I don't suppose there is another way to play MKV's on a PS3 without quality loss? Or a fix for mkv2vob's black problem.

Sad really, as I didn't notice it at first and thought this is a great little app, but the washed out blacks are disheartening. And I demand the best !!! lol

    Cheers

Probably a 0-255 vs. 16-235 luminance scaling issue.

    Actually tell a lie...

On the PC the black's are washed out (as in the picture above)

But on PS3 the blacks are blacker than black!!! (not washed out)

    Soo its all good

  6. Likely a configuration/playback issue on your PC. What software are you using for playback?

You're probably using VMR9 or 7(renderless) for the renderer which is common cause of the washed out look . You can change it to something else like video overlay (then adjust in graphics card settings) , or EVR, Haali renderer etc... this will be a big change in how it appears
