  1. Hi everyone,
I have recently installed Windows 7 on my PC,but I seem to be having some difficulties with the sound card. At first I installed the sound card's drivers from the cd that came with the PC(the one that has everything you need for your motherboard). Then I tried to play up some mp3 songs, but the sound is crap(sorry for using this word, but I do not know what else to call it.From some research I made with the google's search engine, I think it is called "distorted".It is sometimes funny but I really want to listen to my music in normal form )
This is some info I get from the components in sytem information about my Sound Device.
    Name Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
    Manufacturer Microsoft
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID MODEMWAVE\0\{2B548A23-97E1-4500-92E8-3912B1E101EF}
    Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\modemcsa.sys (6.1.7600.16385, 18,00 KB (18.432 bytes), 14/7/2009 2:55 πμ)

Name SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
    Manufacturer SigmaTel
    Status OK
    PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_80862113& REV_1002\4&1488D858&0&0201
    Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\sthda.sys (5.10.5067.0, 1,12 MB (1.177.032 bytes), 12/1/2010 6:20 μμ)

I do not know what's wrong but I really want a solution to this.If there are more info needed for the solution of this problem tell me how to find them and I will copy them up here.
    Thanks in advance

those aren't soundcard devices. look in control panel sound to see what is your default device. also right click computer/properties/devices to check if any are listed with a unknown yellow flag.

go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and download win7 drivers.

in the device manager is it listed? or are there yellow triangles and unknown devices?

it may be too old to work in win7 if there are no current drivers.

What aedipuss said. That file you posted appears to be the audio drivers for your modem, not your sound card. Generally W7s own sound drivers work without adding any extra drivers. I've been using the W7 default audio drivers on three W7 PCs with no problems.

But if they don't work, you need to identify what brand and model your sound card is and look for W7 drivers for it. AFAIK, W7 handles sound differently than earlier OSs and does most of the audio processing with the CPU, so older drivers may not work properly.

  6. Here is the model
    SigmaTel STAC9227X @ Intel 82801HB ICH8 - High Definition Audio Controller [B-0] PCI
    I can't find the drivers though :/
    EDIT
It is listed in the Sound, video, and game controllers of device manager
As SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC . The only thing that is not installed is PCI Simple Communications controller(which I think hasn't got anything to do with the audio)

looks like sigmatel was bought out a couple years ago. no vista or win7 official drivers. i'd try http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=%22windows%207%20sigmatel%22 this search and see if microsoft has anything.

if not a google search turns up a coupe of drivers you could download and try but not many people have any luck getting that audio chip working properly in win7.

Not exactly the best solution, but if no working drivers seem to be available and if you have a spare PCI slot, it might be easier to just get a newer audio card that would have W7 drivers easily avialable.

  9. hmmm...I was thinking about redwudz's suggestion before even starting up this topic :P That catalog has got many drivers. It wouldn't be wise if I started installing them one-by-one and see which one actually works. Anyway aedipuss your help was great I haven't seen such fast replies to questions of mine, with actually a working solution :P So if I go with a new one which one should I buy from here http://www.eshopcy.com.cy/PER_soundcards.phtml ? The cheapest one or something a bit more expensive? What things do we usually look for in soundcards?
