Hi,
Before you all shoot me down I have 'searched' and can't really find what I'm looking for![]()
So my question is, is there any good method's of backing up my HD DVD's to a DVD5/9 the same way I can back up my Bluray's to DVD 5/9 with BDRebuilder ?
I only want to backup the main movie so any advice or idea's or even a link to a good guide would be appreciated.
I know how to rip the HD DVD's to my pc, I just need to know the process (if there is one) for stripping/shrinking the resulting files to a DVD.
Thanks in advance.

You can do this and you can create HD DVD format video on DVD-5 or DVD-9 that a Toshiba HD DVD player will play. I did so more than 1 year ago so I can personally tell you that it's possible. But it's really a dead end. To create HD DVD format discs you need a commercial product. Ulead has a product that can do it, but it was fussy as hell about what it would accept as input without re-encoding it at substantial quality loss. There was an HD DVD release of Scenarist that I used as it worked better than Ulead, but if you don't already know how to use Scenarist for DVD creation, it's not really an option. That version of Scenarist is not being made now and not available through normal channels for purchase.
Best bet is to convert to BluRay as wulf109 says. However, do note that BluRay players are horribly inconsistent about playing BluRay content on DVD media. Some require the disc to be created as a BluRay disc and others require it to be created as AVCHD. -
jman98 makes a very good point about DVD5 and DVD9 compatability on BD players. In my expierence Sony is the best and Panasonic should be avoided. I have a Sony S350 and BX2 and they have never failed to play my BD on DVD9 or DVD5. I tied a Panasonic 60 and it choked and wouldn't even load the same disks.

Does Ripbot create an AVCHD disc the same way BDRebuilder does ? -

Can anyone advise me what setting's I should be using in Ripbot to convert my HD DVD's to Bluray to keep maximum quality.
Obviously I am converting them to AVCHD so just need to know what setting's to use as there seem's to be a few !
I want to convert/shrink them down to a DVD 9 - I know how to do this part in Ripbot so need no suggestion's for this part.
Thanks. -
Alternate method I use: (I buy HD-DVD's for $1-2USD and create blu rays)
EVO Demux---->Change audio prefix to .mpa (some need this step for audio track to be recognized by TsMuxeR)--->TsMuxeR-->imgburn
Then you can use BDRB to make BD-9
note: The correct nomenclature for blu ray compliant folder structure on a DVD +/- DL disc is BD-9, not DVD-9

After Ripbot demuxes the streams you get a box to select options.
select 2 pass encode
select AVCHD
select lock size and select DVD9 in dropdown box
now select your audio option as they change based on your encode and size options,I normally select 640AC3. Using HD audio is not a good idea because it will use up 3Gigs of space.
There's no need to change the console option as Ripbot selects the best. -

@ocgw - Thank's for pointing out my DVD9 mistake - I did know that I should have called it a BD9 but simply forgot what it was called
