  1. Hi all,

    I've got a subtitle file in .doc format and now I'd like to edit it. The problem is that I don't know what subtitling tool this file made from. Could somebody help me with this?

    And if I would like to embed this subtitle into the video (MPEG, WMV), what is the next steps should be taken?

    Example:

    0001 00:00:26:23 00:00:29:15

    Hello everybody,
    my name is Steven.

    0002 00:00:29:19 00:00:33:07

    I joined this company about 10 years ago,

    0003 00:00:33:11 00:00:38:18

    and I am now responsible for
    large customers in the United States.

    Thank you

  2. you could just use a macro in Word to convert it to .SRT format.... or can't you?
    or even just a couple of search and replaces

    Replace " 00:" with a "^p 00:"
    Replace " 00:" with a " ---> 00:"
    Replace "^p^p" with a "^p 00:"

    Find a string of four numbers, then insert a Tab:
    Find ^#^#^#^# then insert ^t

    Or, edit this file so that every subtitle is on ONE line, like this:

    0001 00:00:26:23 00:00:29:15 Hello everybody, my name is Steven.
    0002 00:00:29:19 00:00:33:07 I joined this company about 10 years ago,
    0003 00:00:33:11 00:00:38:18 and I am now responsible for large customers in the United States.

    And then select a column (in word, hold down Alt-key and use your mouse to mark an area) and insert whatever you need to make it an SRT file.

    For SRT format, the temporary intermediate result should be:
    0001TAB00:00:26:23 --> 00:00:29:15TABHello everybody, my name is Steven.
    0002TAB00:00:29:19 --> 00:00:33:07TABI joined this company about 10 years ago,
    0003TAB00:00:33:11 --> 00:00:38:18TABand I am now responsible for large customers in the United States.

    first replace every ^p (=paragraph) with double ^p^p
    then replace every TAB with ^p (=paragraph)
    then remove all precursor zeroes.

    End result shouuld look like:

    1
    00:00:26:23 --> 00:00:29:15
    Hello everybody,
    my name is Steven.

    2
    00:00:29:19 --> 00:00:33:07
    I joined this company about 10 years ago,

    3
    00:00:33:11 --> 00:00:38:18
    and I am now responsible for
    large customers in the United States.

    Or get Textpad, that's better and easier to use than Word.

  3. Wow! Thank you very much ******** for your kind support.

    What is your favourite subtitling tool for editing .srt file?
    I'm quite familiar with VisualSybSync. It is a good tool for transcription as well. But when I want to move some subtitles up, when there's subject or text at the subtitle position, I can't do with VisualSubSync.

    Please advise.
