  1. Last night, i came across a flaw in my new svcd temps and this isn't good.

It happened when i was encoding the twister dvd.
    Duration 1 hr 47 min.

At the beginning, when they are running to the shelter when lightning is striking, blocks are appearing and picture is NO where near dvd.

I did a full blown noise reduction setting and it still did not fix all the blocks.

I am in the process right now into making it 2 svcds, 1 hr 5 on cd1, 42 min on cd2.

The troubles i come up with.

Anyway, due to this problem, if anyone has or is using my temps and u are using one of the temps for 1 hr 47 min or more, and if the movie has a lot of action, sorry, i need to majorly revise.

I am currently not leaning towards vcd anymore so i'm not gonna cheat my way out of no blocks by lowering the res, it's stayin right at- 480x480.

here were the speca for 1 cd 2 pass vbr-

    min-0
    ave-894
    max-1344
    de-interlace
custom color correction- contrast 1 base, darken to positive 20
noise reduction- still pic- 40, range-3, time axis-14

    motion search precision-highest(slowest)
    everything else, default.

Right now, here is the specs for cd1 for 1 cd 2 pass vbr-
    (just the bitrate)-
    min-0
    ave-1551
    max-2001

    Hey Sean,

I have always been making XVCD's, I found it easier to control the file size by adjusting the video bit rates. The quality is acceptable (to me).

I have tried making SVCD before by using SVCD template that comes with Tmpgenc & Sefy's templates, I got to admit, the picture quality does come out sharper, but I found during some fast scenes, the pictures became choppy, you know, the pictures started to jump. This bothers me a lot.

It seems that you are quite knowledgeable about SVCD's, want to give me some pointers? I really don't care much about audio's, so I usually set it at 128k, I just want good picture quality. I really don't care about putting 1 movie on 1 CD, but I would like to keep it under 2 CD's. With the SVCD templates I got, no matter how much I increase the video rates, the pictures are still jumpy. Do the SVCD's that you made have the same problem? Should I just use the settings that you mentioned above? Just give me some pointers.

  3. you use the SAME method i use!

128 audio, no more than 2 cds, 1 cd preferrably.

Well, i would like to help but to say that if my temps are irrelovent in terms of quality past 1` hr 47 min of video per cd, then right now might not be a good time cuz u probably have some vids that or longer.

This is gonna be a good task for me, trying to figure out how to do this w\o blocks at 480x480.
Matter of fact, some people such as virtualis, sefy, or adam might know some things bout this, i did do a full blown noise reduction setting but blocks were still partially there with downgrading dvd pic crispness.

So..... need some help if anyone wants to, dont have to, for other settings to remove blocks at the res i'm using with bitrates under 1200 with fast motion

Received your templates, tried them out, I ripped K-PAX, have TMPGEnc Plus, used your 2hr template. It indicated it would take 25+ hours to run. Is this normal? I have a AMD 1.6 Ghz ranning WIN2000 Pro with 256 DDR. Western Digital 120 GB 7200 RPM HD. Would very much like to do these but the time factor is not good for me if it's gonna take that long, many thanks........

  5. unless kpax is not fast motion, i wouldnt recommend usin em right now unless u put it on 2 cds.

But to speed it up do this-
impor the temp, hit setting next to 2 pass vbr, see what ave is, then go out of that, change to CQ_VBR
Add 60 to ave and import that as ur max, qu-58 or 59 or 60

Motion search- highest since long movie.

  6. Many thanks for the quick response...I think I will just wait until you fix up the templates, may try your recommendations on a 90 min just to see the results.........
