    Dear Forum member.
I have a quantity of sound files (mp3) which I need to put on disk for a friend to playback. However the quantitiy is such that these would take up a large number of CD's if burned in audio cd format. (sixteen)
Therefore , I am wondering if , in the interests of saving space (and expense) it would be feasible to burn these to DVD in such a way that they would playback on a standalone DVD player.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also do you know of any (free) programs that would do this , or perhaps could any standalone DVD authoring program be used to achieve this.
Any suggestions would be appreciated please, bearing in mind I am not an expert.
    Yours with thanks
    Ian

any dvd player will play audio files burned as a data disc, be it cd or dvd, any burning program can do it, i use deepburner free, its awesome. if you use deepburner then choose 'data disc' at the startup and choose 'no multisession'

There are a number of posts regarding making audio DVDs. These are not DVD Audio discs, but DVD Video discs where the video is either black, or perhaps album covers encoded at low bitrates. DVDLab Pro has an audio DVD function, although I believe you have to have already encoded your audio to DVD compliance first. GUIForDVDAuthor can also do this, after you have encoded your audio correctly. I am sure there will be others.

it doesnt need to be an 'audio dvd' just burn the mp3 files to a disc as data and a dvd player will play them, you dont need to worry about video content being black, the dvd player will show you a track listing of the disc which you can navigate with a remote control.

Only if your dvd player allows playback of this type AND of mp3 files burned this way, not all do.

So saying something like this as a blanket statement is incorrect.

in ten years of theatre production i have never failed to have an mp3 file play in a (many) dvd player burned as data.

you can hold your views all you like about whether my blanket statement is wrong or not

I've owned several and have known several people that have owned standalone dvd players over the years that would not play a dvd data disc with just straight wave or mp3 files, or cd's with just mp3 files.

So it's not just an "opinion", it's a "fact".

But i noticed how you went from "any" to "many"

Yeah, but it's a good bet a random DVD player will support MP3s.

If not in this particular case you could then go to the fully compliant DVD solution.

I use GfD's Audio Titleset when I want to add some soundtracks to a standard DVD.
You have to convert the audio to AC3 and GfD adds a title card to make a basic MPEG DVD.

The pure solution, DVD audio, is more esoteric and software support is sparse.
Try http://dvd-audio.sourceforge.net/ or if you have money to burn,
