First off some background. I record Indiana basketball games to my PC and burn them to DVD. I also edit the clips to Make a highlight reel. Nothing major just cut and trim. I used to use an ati aiw card but my pc is done. I'm picking upA MacBook Pro. I am either looking at the Elgato video capture device or the one similar from blackmagic. My question is, will either or both of these devices record the video at the quality I need to put the games on DVD? I'm sure the video will be fine for a YouTube clip. Thanks for the input.

Sigh.
For a veteran of our boards, your subject title is pretty lousy. That is problem number 1.
Your post needs to go in the Mac forums. You are buying a Mac. You need an answer from people with Mac experience with those capture devices. That is problem number 2.
I will ask a moderator to move your post for you. -
If you previously authored DVDs playable on a DVD player rather than just using DVDs to store files, it is likely you will have to do more work than in the past once you switch to using a Mac. Unlike the AIW capture devices, most of the current Mac capture products I have looked at don't capture DVD-compatible video and audio. They use H.264 and .MOV compatible audio instead and their encoding profiles are designed for compatibility with various Apple devices and/or YouTube.
Both Elgato and Blackmagic Design produce quality products. However, to get more useful insight on your choices, I think it would be helpful if you posted the model name for the capture devices you are considering.Last edited by usually_quiet; 21st Nov 2012 at 17:26. Jman, sorry, I thought of that after I posted. I'll start a new thread because I've decided against the Mac. Thanks for the input.
