I just got a used Sony KD-34XBR960 for mad cheap so I figured it was now worth getting a Blu-ray Player.

I am not really sure how to go about looking for the player I want, I live in the USA but for my store bought dvd collection, I have I would guess at least 40% of my dvds are from other regions. So I have always bought the all region/region free dvd players. My last one being the OPPO DV-980H this was amazing to me. These days I download lots of video, so with the player I was able to put xvid/avi on a usb drive and plug it right into the dvd player.

I have been hearing great things about this Netflix instant streaming video service which sounds like a great thing, so I guess I would want a player that has that as an option, which tell me if I am wrong but it seems like from what I read that the OPPO BDP-83 does not do that. I have a Cat 6 wire from my router to my tv so I do not need a wireless Blu-ray Player. I am not sure but I think I have read that there are some players that you can simply plug a hard drive into and be able to play videos straight from the hard drive, so I would end up saving my on burning disc. So that sounds like a good feature.

So I guess what I am looking for is a Blu-ray player that can play any type of video file I through at it, be able to be all region/region free, be able to plug a hard drive into it and has an ethernet port so I can use online streaming capabilities.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Buy a cheap $20-$40 off-brand/oversea dvd player for region free dvd playing. Buy a PS3 for the rest of the features you want (including netflix streaming that was recently added).

    PS,
I watched season 4 Heroes in HD streaming from netflix onto my PS3 and the quality was excellent. Oddly enough, you don't get the option to stream HD from netflix onto your computer.

The ONLY region free options for North America for BluRay and DVD playback are the Oppo and Momitsu players. That's it. Neither does Netflix, YouTube, etc. I doubt that they will support this any time soon, if ever. I think video streaming like from Netflix is highly overrated and I've been pretty happy with my region free Momitsu. Note that there is no region 0 (all regions) setting for BluRay so you have to change between regions A, B and C as necessary, but those players can be set to region 0 for DVD playback. I think you might be happy with either.
