Why does my XviD decoder output the 2-pixel tinted vertical lines all the way to the right? I was doing an x264 comparison to see how much a Starcraft video benefits and how many times more bitrate XviD requires for the same SSIM, but I noticed that increasing it immensely only increased SSIM by a margin for some reason. I was ready to proclaim that XviD simply sucks a chronically unwashed **** but then I noticed those 2 vertical lines, present in every bitrate, which explains what kept hogging the metric.
I'm using K-Lite Codec pack like the lazy ****** I am, so I can't really pinpoint to the problem. Can it be the XviD settings by any chance? I have them all cranked to maximum, so maybe I need to uncheck something, say Trellis?

Are you saying those dark right edge pixels aren't there in the x264 version?
How are you viewing this, and taking screenshots?
If you are using a directshow method, try opening in vdub directly (using vfw) => does the dark line still occur?
What if you open it up in avidemux (completely different decoder)?
If it's present in all decoders, something might be up with the way you encoded it.
Maybe describe your workflow in more detail...
And who plays starcraft anymore... :P -
The image you posted was 640x480. But artifacts like that often arise from non mod16 frame sizes and different encoders and decoders. A 638x480, or 642x480 frame, for example.

@Jagabo, the original video is 640x480. No non-standard bullshit here. -

Just for reference, default settings didn't work in Vdub and xvid_encraw worked fine. -
And in case any of you are curious, here are some screenshots:
Worst XviD frame.
Same frame from x264 video.
Original.
It took XviD 5.2x the bitrate to match x264. ******* beautiful. Too bad I never watch game replays.
