I am a complete novice and greatly appreciate any and all help. My wife and I have a newborn and we want to buy an HD camcorder yet we need to understand if we can do the following before making the purchase.

Once the HD videos are transferred off the camcorder and on to our computer, how can we:

1)View (without a Blu-Ray) the HD videos on our HDTV? Our computer is not anywhere close to our HDTV & the same would apply if we were traveling and wanted to take videos with us to show people. How would we be able to watch on their HDTV?
2)Convert HD videos to SD and then burn onto dvds to send/share the videos with our parents?

    Thanks!

    1. Maybe use a small standalone hd player like the western digital media player, http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/index.asp?cat=30

    2. You can use lots of converters to that like the very basic ConvertXtoDVD or the camcorder may include a video editor with such a feature.
