  1. I have been successfully converting videos in different formats to VCD standard mpeg which is 352X240 for me, using TMPEGEnc. However, I cannot open my Divx avi files with TMPEGE. The Divx codec I have installed my my windows media player and it has no problems opening the divx file. What gives?

Second question: How do I convert just the audio portion of an mpeg file from 48000 to 44100? Can it be done using TMPEGE? What is the fastest way to do this?

Please be patient with me. I am a newbie and this is my first post so I would appreciate detailed, step-by-step explanations that should be idiot-proof --- because I am an idiot!

  2. Answer to first question:

    I had the same problem.

Even if you downloaded the DivX yesterday in DivX format off the internet, there is a high probability that it was encoded with DivX 3.11. (Popular DivX encoders/plug-ins still only support the DivX 3.11 codec, such as nandub).

Unfortunately, TMPGEnc does not seem to be able to use the DivX 4.** codec (with DivX 3.11 support) to encode movies.

Go to the download section of http://www.divx-digest.com to download the older codec.

I went there to the software section but I don't know what divx codec to download. Is it in the codec section or the filter section? What particular filename is it? Forgive my ignorance, I am really still a new newbie!

  5. Had my first attempt at converting Divx to VCD just now. I used the guide on http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm . The first problem I ran into following the guide, was when I went to load the Video file. I used the Divx disc as the source and the audio file i created from Virtualdub. This didn't work as TMPEnc wouldn't allow it to use the Divx disc as the source for the video file.

Using Virtual dub I then opened video file -> selected video (from the top) ->compression -> chose Divx (mine was 4.x). Then File -> Save as AVI and let it get on with it. This worked

I was then able to use this as my video source for TMPEnc to create an MPEG, then used Nero to create a VCD. A bit long winded - but there ya go.

If you use Virtualdub this will supposedly let you change the audio to 44100 mhz (haven't needed to myself). Hope this was some use.....
