I extracted the audio from an avi file in TMPGEnc. I am now trying to use the Multiplex thingy to merge the audio and video of my movie.

What does TMPGEnc do when it's finished with this process? I tried it once before and it just seemed to stay there, not using any system resources after a while. The output file size stayed the same, but the program didn't close. Will it shut itself off or send some kind of "finished" message when it really is done?

  2. Hi!

I extracted the audio from an avi file in TMPGEnc

errr ...... how did you do that then??

Never done that before ... would be interested to hear how you did it!

Don't use TMPGenc to multiplex if you can help it .... use bbMPEG (check the tools section <<---)
It's the only program that gives 100% compliant VCD/SVCDs.

    I'm going crazy.

I converted the avi movie file in Ulead Media Studio Pro, but got no sound. So I extracted the audio file in TMPGEnc and then used it to merge the two into one movie file. The sound is horribly out of synch.

I assume this is because I used different programs?

Does anyone know how to strip audio and unite it with video in Ulead?

  4. The majority of the people seem to think TMPGenc sucks for extracting video and audio. I have never had a problem with audio being out of sinc, especially if I demultiplex and multiplex.

TMPGenc will not give you a message that the file is finished. I believe the run button changes color from dark grey to grey. The output size does not change.

Did you just try to encode the entire AVI file (Video & Audio) in TMPGenc using a VCD, XVCD or SVCD template. Most of the time you will never have to screw with the audio.

VirtualDub is good for extracting the audio also.

Well I tried again with VirtualDub. Now I have a big wav file for the audio and a beautiful soundless mpeg file for the video. I need to convert the audio to mpeg-layer 2. Can't figure out how to do it in Ulead.

  6. use TMPGEnc to convert the wav to mp2.

open TMPGEnc and load the unlock.mcf template from the extra folder

now select audio only (not system audio only) from the choices above the settings/load/save buttons

hit the settings button and set the audio stream for Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps (stereo)

load your wav with the browse button for the audio source

set a save location and file name in the output field

    hit start

good to see you are still going... i havent had much time for the forum the last few days but i must say i am glad to see you are still trying. it may seem like a long torturous road but it will get smoother eventually.
    peace out,

My Other Half is referring to me as a "stubborn cuss," but I'm not ready to give up just yet. Not by a long shot.

I'm doing what you suggested above, Waldo. Now, when the audio file is converted, how to I merge and synch them properly? I want to use M2-edit Pro - if for no other reason to compare the quality it produces to what I already have using TMPGEnc all the way. Can the two files even be merged in M2-edit? Have you used it before?
