Well, I haven't found an adequate place outside Video Help that can give me a clue as to what's going on. See Subject. When I use DirecTV to capture programs or even view the TV, I find on video 1 that the width of the image exceeds that of the screen, so lose the margins. On video 2, which I use to record to my DVR, it's worse. I don't see any mention of controls in the manual I have resting beside me on my desk. Is this an aging problem? I don't see any controls for horizontal control anywhere.
If no easy solution, then I think I'm in the mood to look for a new TV.

Are you talking about overscan? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan
If so, all TV sets do it including flat screens. Program producers allow for overscan when framing the shot and graphics. If your TV is "blooming" (i.e. picture size increase when brightness turned up) that causes even more central image loss. Bloomng is a sign of CRT wear and can be internally adjusted a bit during a service tune up.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I suppose it's possible, but I do not think we have a TV repair shop within 25 miles of our small town to make any tune ups. I think we are just headed for a new TV. First though, we will try two other TVs in the house that are hooked into DirecTV. One is an LCD. I'll see if it exhibits the same characteristic as described here. Typically, if I'm looking at sports scores along the bottom of the image, I'll see something like Tigers 8 Color 6, but Tige might be missing.
