Again, a newbie here. I have been trying for 3 days to:
    1. Convert a DVD from Region 2 to Region 1
    2. Burn a DVD with the new region so I can watch on regular DVD player

    I downloaded Mac the Ripper.
Copied file to Desktop with All Regions checked.
Bought Toast 10. Burned file to DVD-R disc via "DATA DVD-ROM(UDF) Mode" on Toast. Then Tried DVD-Video Mode; then tried Video_TS Folders mode.

In each case, the new DVD would not play on my Sony DVD player (DVP-NC85H) due to either "area limitations" or not recognizing the DVD at all.

I have scoured the FAQ's on numerous web sites and can't find an answer.

Please help before I buy something else!!
    Thanks

I needed to add this information. When I rip the files via Mac the Ripper to a folder on my desktop, I do have the Video_TS folder and a blank Audio_TS folder.

When I burn these to a blank DVD, I can play that DVD in any Mac I own and it works fine. But that same disc will not play in a regular DVD player.

What process are you using to burn the folders to disc, and what format disc are you creating? Also, what disc media are you using?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

I am using Toast 10 and if you look at the original posting, you will see I have tried 3 different ways to burn the DVD:

Burned file to DVD-R disc via "DATA DVD-ROM(UDF) Mode" on Toast. Then Tried DVD-Video Mode; then tried Video_TS Folders mode.

I am using a DVD-R disc (so I have made a lot of new coasters....)

Possibly your source disc is PAL and your player will only play NTSC discs. This is independent of region locking.
If so, either buy a player that will handle both PAL and NTSC,
or convert every similar disc to NTSC.

You are right. The source disc is PAL (England) and the player is NTSC (USA).
I thought Toast would make that change automatically.

Is there a program to convert the PAL to NTSC?

    Thanks for your help
