So I encode a mkv file. The movie's name is 300 at 1080P size 8.9GB. I am trying toi resize it to 8.5GB to fit into a DL dvd.
I am told handbrake is the tool to use for this. It seems that it has 2 steps to encode. 1st one takes 1 and a half hrs to complete then there's step 2 and it take like 9 hrs to encode.
Did i do something wrong?
I followed the instructions on handbrake written here.

so ur telling me it takes like 10 hrs or more simply to re-encode the file?Originally Posted by lordsmurf
I mean that's like almost half a day. Are you serious? -
You haven't mentioned the specs of the computer you are using for the conversion.

I'm not denying that that is terrible, but can you not just start it 2 hours before you go to bed at night and let it run over night? The only reason I mention this is that a lot of people seem to have this strange belief that they simply cannot let their computers run overnight without the owner watching the PC the entire time, so they can only do long jobs during daylight hours when they can be around to monitor them.Originally Posted by jones24
I still stand by my suggestion in your other thread related to this that you need to just split the file in half and burn it to 2 single layer DVDs rather than waste your time re-encoding it to fit on one DL disc. -
wouldn't it be easier and faster to go buy a copy?
you don't seem to care you're openly asking for help about a pirated copy.
you need to read the forum rules.i simply downloaded them from the net -
Thanks guys for all your suggestions. Yes i'll probably try the other encoder linked here and yes splitting it in half makes way more sense. Then again wouldn't i need to re encode it into 2 seperate halves? Taking up more time again?

You only need to re-encode the file if its going to be authored as blu-ray and if the video isnt 1920x1080 as i mentioned in your other thread.
I think,therefore i am a hamster.
